Progress, Not Perfection

When setting new goals, many of us begin with confidence, enthusiasm, and determination. We are often motivated and excited to accomplish the things we have planned. As time goes by, reality may kick in, and our goals may feel too big or impossible to achieve. It's important to remember that maintaining a positive mindset can keep us on track. By focusing on the progress we are making, (no matter how small it may seem) rather than aiming to be perfect, we are more likely to keep going! Here are additional benefits to focusing on our progress:

  • It encourages a mindset of learning, not failure.

  • It gives you more reasons to celebrate.

  • It's sustainable.

So the next time you find yourself trying to be perfect or beating yourself up for each mistake you make, try a different point of view. Think instead of the progress you are making and make time to celebrate your successes. Then, take some time to reflect on what happened when you changed your focus. Did you feel more at ease? Was it easier to move forward? Were you more motivated to keep pushing towards your goals? These are some of the questions to consider because the answers to these questions can be used to reach your goals.
